The Solapur is located in the centre of Maharashtra sits right on Deccan Basalts with diverse hydrogeological settings. All the heterogeneities that can be taught of any hard rock terrain exist in the Solapur region. The Department of Geology of PG Centre of Sivaji University has been working quite extensively on various hydrological aspects in the region for the past few decades. A good number of AHI members are also clustered in this region.

In this context, a Local Chapter of AHI is initiated during 1999 with Dr. M.K. Zambre as its Convener. Since its inception the Chapter has been quite actively participating not only in the activities of the AHI but also in initiation of its own activities from the Local Chapter In the year 2016 Dr. S.K. Vadagbalkar has taken over as the Convener of the Solar Chapter in place from Dr. Zambre.

Water Resources Engineering and Management Institute (WREMI), Samiala, Vadodara of The M.S. University of Baroda, is engaged in the field of Water Resources Development and Management since 1991. During the last 18 years WREMI achieved the premier position in teaching, research and consultancy activities in western India.

Under the Convenorship of Prof. D.T. Shete, AHI- Gujarat Chapter has enrolled about 100 Life Members before the inauguration of the Chapter. The inauguration will be on 21st January 2009. On this occasion the Chapter is organizing XXVII Annual Convention of AHI and National Seminar on "Recent Advances in Hydrology for Water Resources Development and Management" on 21st and 22nd January 2009.
